Indore: Water supply through taps will be hit in many areas of the city, especially localities in eastern areas on Monday as Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC) shut down pumps due to pipeline related works on Sunday. The IMC went for shutdown for three reasons. Firstly, it has to remove pipes coming under the proposed flyover at Rau, second to connect pipeline for colonies on Bypass, and thirdly to fix valve at Jalod pumping station. At 12 noon, the IMC shut down the pumps at Jalod station but it took around three hours for the water in pipes to get empty. This water in the pipes was supplied directly to houses.

At 3 pm, the work to 300-metre pipeline along bypass for the proposed flyover started, which was completed late in evening. Similarly, work on connecting third phase pipeline to the line laid for supply of water in colonies along bypass was undertaken. The valve was also changed. The works for which the shutdown was taken were underway till filing of this report at 10 pm. Sources said work may be completed till 12 midnight. The sources stated that water tanks in nearly 35 localities will not be filled, which will affect colonies connected to these tanks. Superintending engineer Harbhajan Singh said IMC will supply water through tanks to localities, which will be affected due to shut down.
