BJP candidate Shankar Lalwani suffered a major setback on Sunday, the day his name was declared for Indore Lok Sabha seat. His supporters faced humiliating defeat in Jacobabad District Sindhi Panchayat (Indore) elections. It is Sindhi community’s biggest panchayat in the state. BJP gave ticket to Lalwani as he is the tallest leader of Sindhi community in the state. Lalwani’s supporters were contesting election from Shri Jhulelal Panel against Jai Shiv Panel.

Jai Shiv panel defeated candidates of Shri Jhulelal Panel by nearly 560 votes. As many as 3045 voters were to be cast vote in the elections on Sunday but only 1729 turned up. Most voters of gave thumbs down to Shri Jhulelal Panel. Jai Shiv panel led by Raja Mandhwani received 1145 votes whereas Shri Jhulelal Panel led by Deepchand Chawala got 587 votes. Mandhwani and Chawala were contesting for president’s post. The results were announced late on Sunday night.
Challenge before Lalwani
Lalwani has many rivals within the community. His rivals include former corporator Jawahar Mangwani, GP Mulchandani and others. Chandra Kumar Makhija and Hemant Mehtani who are close to sitting MP Sumitra Mahajan had also openly opposed Lalwani’s candidature from Indore when his name first came among probable candidates. It will be a big challenge for Lalwani to get support of rivals within the community in Lok Sabha elections.
