Indore: A team from union home ministry will visit Devi Ahilyabai Holkar Airport on March 15 for inspection to set up immigration facility there. Bureau of Immigration, which works under union home ministry has to set up its counter at the airport. After getting the nod from Directorate General of Civil Aviation, international flights for Sharjah will begin from the city.
The Centre has already issued notification for setting up customs counter at the airport. With this, the process of setting up of immigration counter has gained speed. Devi Ahilybai Holkar Airport director Aryama Sanyal said team from union home ministry will submit its report to ministry after inspection. After examining report, the ministry will grant permission to airport administration to set up immigration check counter. Once the airport administration gets nod from the ministry, it will inform Directorate General of Civil Aviation that the airport is ready to offer immigration facility for international flights. Then, the DGCA would permit airlines to start international flights from city airport.
A senior Air India officer from Mumbai told Free Press that airliner has not submitted the Indore-Sharjah flight schedule to DGCA till date. However, officer said tentative schedule for Indore-Sharjah flight is ready. Once the airport declares that it has immigration facility, the flight schedule will be submitted.
According to tentative schedule, Air India will start operation from March 31 with A-320 aircraft on the route. Officer clarified that it’s a tentative schedule and DGCA may ask to modify the timing. Thereafter the final timing will be fixed and uploaded on the system.
