Indore: In its endeavour to strengthen ties with industries, Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya (DAVV) has chalked out a four-point blueprint, which it says will be beneficial to both the industry as well as academia.

During a meeting of industry-institute partnership cell, the university decided to send a group of its engineering students every month to industries situated in and around the city to study their problems.

“One group of ME and MTech students accompanied by a teacher would visit five different types of industries and study the problems faced by them. The university will provide consultancy to the industries to solve those problems,” said vice chancellor Dr Narendra Dhakad who chaired the meeting.

He said that the students would also get industry exposure, which will help them in their campus placements. The university has also decided to ink MoUs with industries for providing consultancy. “We have identified some industries in Pune, Mumbai, Bangalore and other cities to sign MoUs,” Dhakad said.

Two years back, the university constituted industry-institute partnership cell aimed at working on better collaboration with industries. Time to time, the university also upgrades its curriculum as per the futuristic requirements of the industries.

“Our focus is on producing a workforce that suits industry requirements,” DAVV media in charge Chandan Gupta said. He said that the university has also decided to run a course for personality development of the students, which will mainly focus on improving their communication skills. “The course will be of two to three months duration,” he added.

Petition against Dhakad’s appointment withdrawn

A self-acclaimed university watchdog, Manish Rathore on Thursday withdrew a PIL challenging appointment of Dr Narendra Dhakad as vice chancellor of DAVV. In his petition, Rathore had alleged that when Dhakad was principal of Holkar College, he had undergone an inquiry, which found him guilty of some irregularities. “For the irregularities, he was fined,” the petitioner said seeking appointment of ‘tainted’ Dhakad null and void.  However, the court sought to know from the petitioner how appointment of Dhakad could be challenged through a PIL, as the appointment had no concern related to public. Rathore withdrew his petition following the court order. DAVV media in charge Chandan Gupta said that Rathore might have withdrawn the PIL fearing he would not be able to substantiate his allegations, and also a penalty slapped on him by the court for wasting its time. Previously, Rathore had filed a petition against appointment of BK Tripathi as professor, but later withdrew it.
