Indore: Assistant archaeologist arrested on rape charge

According to police, a girl PhD student stated in the complaint that she had a friendship with Pal Singh Rana since 2016. Rana allegedly abused her sexually by promising to marry her.

Indore: Bhanwarkuan police arrested a youth on Monday who cheated his classmate with false promise of marriage and left for Dehradun after being selected as assistant archaeologist in Archaeological Survey of India.

According to police, a girl PhD student stated in the complaint that she had a friendship with Pal Singh Rana since 2016. Rana allegedly abused her sexually by promising to marry her.

Few months ago, he took up a government job in Dehradun. After that, he stopped talking to the woman.

She visited Dehradun to settle the matter but he refused to marry her. The PHD student then filed a rape complaint against him in Bhanwarkua police station, police said.

Police called Rana from Dehradun, arrested him and produced him in the court from where he was sent to jail.

Sources said Rana was already married. He stayed in city to prepare for examination. He was selected as assistant archaeologist after clearing the examination and was posted in Dehradun.
