Indore: About 6,000 students participated in 14th State Level Abacus and Mental Arithmetic Competition organised at Emerald Heights International School on Saturday. The competition was organised from 7 am to 4 pm in different levels for students. Competition was conducted in foundation module, construction module and advanced module. The students who participated were between 5 to 13 years of age.
Students were given eight minutes to solve 200 questions without using a calculator and based on abacus techniques. Students had been preparing and solving similar questions in their classes. Organiser Neeraj Goel said, “Mathematics is often seen as a challenging subject but abacus techniques help students in calculating faster. As a result, they gain confidence.” The results of competition will be announced on Sunday. Five champions and five runner-ups from each module will be felicitated at an award function to be organised at Ravindra Natya Grah on Sunday.
