Nearly four years after shutting down its offshore campus in Dubai, Indian Institute of Management Indore is again going to Middle East, this time with General Management Programme for Executives (GMPE). “We will offer GMPE in association with Anisuma Training Institute, which is situated in Dubai,” said IIM Indore media coordinator Ananya Mishra. The GMPE, a flagship executive course, is a 22-day comprehensive programme to be completed in eight months.
“The programme is uniquely designed to develop strong conceptual frameworks in business and management skills by judiciously mixing classroom contact with group discussions and networking with practical frameworks which can be applied at the workplace,” the institute stated. The programme will be delivered on Friday and Saturday every month on pre-announced dates in Dubai with last module (five days) of the programme being delivered at the IIM Indore campus.
In 2011, the IIM Indore had started its study centre at Ras-al-Khaimah (RAK) in UAE with offering PGPMX course. The following year, the institute had introduced PGP course becoming the only IIM in the country to go abroad with the IIMs’ main common programme. But the institute did not get desired response from students there.
In 2014, the instit ute shifted the centre from RAK to Dubai stating that it would get more students in commercial capital of UAE. The institute failed to attract students even in Dubai.The UAE government also pushed Dubai centre on verge of shut down by asking IIM Indore to appoint full-fledged teaching and non-teaching staff at its Dubai facility.
Citing unforeseen reasons, IIM Indore closed its Dubai centre with last class being held in July 2015. But it seems that the institute is again planning to set up a centre in Dubai with help from an offshore partner there. The IIM Indore has invited applications for first GMPE batch in Dubai. The last date to apply for the programme is May 26. The programme would be offered from June to January 2020.
