Indore : The district is all set to become second district of the country to get title of Open Defecation-Free (ODF). The formal declaration of in this regards is likely to make on Saturday.
Collector P Narahari conducted flash inspection of certain villages on wee hours of Thursday to check the preparations. Construction of toilets in 610 villages of the 312 panchayats is complete. By Friday construction of toilets will be completed in remaining few villages paving way for the use of toilets in 100 villages. The drive of making the district ODF started on September 1, 2015.
During the last four months over 25 toilets were built in the rural areas with government grant. 15,000 toilets were built with other resources. The public representatives, children, senior citizens and women played a major role in the eradication of the age old bad practice.
Narahari along with CEO of Jila Panchayat Aashish Singh visited village Agara, Ahirkedhi and Ataheda of Depalpur Block to check the progress of ODF there. Villagers told them that they have quit the habit of open defecation and understood the importance of toilets. Now they are not only using the toilets but motivating others to follow the same and keeping a watch to catch people who still follow the habit.
