Indore :  After extending dates twice, the Department of Higher Education on Sunday finally conducted entrance tests for BPEd and MPEd courses despite poor registration scenario but it may have to permit admissions in offline mode too else the session 2015-17 will be in jeopardy.

The colleges have clearly told the DHE that they would not run the course this session if adequate number of students is not allowed to them.

Only 13 candidates against 150 seats in BPEd course and 51 candidates against 60 seats in MPEd course had applied for admission from Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya. So the online entrance tests for the courses have just become a formality as admission to all these students were certain.

According to information, the registrations were poor across the state. Only 230 students had registered for BPEd course of which 201 took the entrance test while the figure 313 students appeared in the test against 330 registrations for MPEd.

Sendhwa Physical Education College director Abhay Pandey said that they would not be run the course if less than 70 percent of seats are filled.

School of Physical Education head SK Yadav said that admissions in the courses can only shoot up if the colleges are allowed to admit students in offline mode.

The DHE’s arbitrary move of changing exam pattern and fixing dates of exams without consulting universities fell flat following poor registrations and caused embarrassment to the department.

The DDE had to cancel entrance test twice and extend registrations dates so that registrations improve but to no avail.

The registration failed to pick for especially for BPEd course.

Even the move of allowing students awaiting their results of final semester exams of undergraduate courses to apply for admission in BPEd and MPEd programmes flailed to attract students.

Initially, the registrations were to be done till April 26 and tests were to be held on May 3. But the DHE extended the registrations date till May 17 and exam date till May 23 following poor registration scenario. The registrations were low because qualifying exam marksheet was a must to apply for entrance test of BPEd and MPEd courses.

When registrations did not improve, the DHE relaxed the rules and extended the last date for registration till May 26 and fixed the exam on May 31. The DHE even removed the clause of marksheet of qualifying exam and allowed students in final year of their degree courses who took the exams and waiting for results to apply for BPEd and MPEd course but this also move failed to drew desired results.
