Indore : In its independent probe report over Barwani botched surgeries case, NGOs Swasthya Adhikar Manch and Narmada Bachao Andolan alleged that the health officials hid 19 victims of the incident and informed the government about 65 patients out of 86 patients.

They alleged that these patients were even left abandoned by the officials to keep the number of victims low and were not provided any treatment and compensation.

The NGOs also raised questions over the probe report of the three-member panel including Dean of MGM Medical College, Dr MK Rathore and said that the report has not come to any public domain yet.

“There were a total of 86 patients who were operated upon in the camp. The health officials have published a list of 65 patients who were sanctioned Rs 5000 monthly pension as per the press note issued by the District Public Relations Officer. We located most of these patients who were left out of the pension and compensation process. These patients were not referred to SAIMS, Indore.”

As per the investigation and statements collected from these patients, at least 12 patients were found who have not got back the expected vision in their eyes. Most of them cannot see too far, have water falling from their eyes and hazy vision.

The representatives of the NGOs demanded immediate treatment of the patients and compensation for them.

“The government’s probe panel included Dr MK Rathore, who was also involved in treatment of the patients in MY Hospital and SAIMS which raises questions over the unbiased results of the probe. The report has been kept hidden by the government to save the doctors and responsible officials,” representative of Swasthya Adhikar Manch, Chinmay Mishra said.
