Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Friday hit out at the Centre over India's COVID-19 inoculation drive, prompting a furious rejoinder from Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan, BJP party handles and others. As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to rage, the Wayanad MP has emerged a vocal critic of the government and India's vaccination policy.
July has arrived, vaccines have not," Gandhi tweeted on Friday morning, adding "where are vaccines" as a hashtag to the short post. Earlier this week he had taken yet another potshot at the Narendra Modi government over the vaccination programme (he called it vaccine jumla), saying the country "expected truth from them".
The Union Health Minister was quick to respond, wondering "what was Rahul Gandhi's problem" and suggesting that the Congress party consider a leadership overhaul.
"Just yesterday, I put out facts on vaccine availability for the month of July. What is Rahul Gandhi Ji’s problem? Does he not read? Does he not understand ? There is no vaccine for the virus of arrogance and ignorance!!" he tweeted in response to the Congress leader's post.
Several others including BJP leaders and the party's official twitter handles have also hit out at the politician. While the BJP's Karnataka team wondered whether Gandhi had received his own vaccine, others including MP Shobha Karandlaje took this as an opportunity to cite the Centre's vaccination policy.
Not to be outdone, several Congress leders and supporters have also weighed in on the situation, lending support to Gandhi. As such, there is now yet another tweet war raging on Twitter.
