New Delhi: Several parts of north India continued to reel under hot and humid weather on Thursday with Churu in Rajasthan sizzling at 44.8 degrees Celsius even as pre-monsoon showers drenched Delhi bringing much-needed respite from heat in the national capital.
In Rajasthan, after Churu the maximum temperature remained on the upper side with Sriganganagar, Bikaner, Jaipur, Pilani, Jodhpur and Jaisalmer recording 43.3, 42.2, 42.1, 41.2, 40.9, and 40.5 respectively.
Delhi posted a maximum of 39.8 degrees Celsius, three notches above the season’s average while the minimum temperature settled at 30.6 degrees, also three notches above the normal, a MeT Department official here said.
“These were pre-monsoon showers. Monsoon rains are likely to hit the city in the next 48 to 72 hours,” the official said. The humidity level oscillated between 45 and 79 per cent. The weatherman has forecast overcast conditions along with the possibility of rain on Friday. The South-West Monsoon’s expected arrival in Delhi and nearby states in few days is likely to bring the much-needed respite from the searing heat as parts of north India continued to experience humid weather.
In West Bengal, Burdwan was the hottest at 35.9 degrees Celsius followed by Bankura, Sriniketan, Asansol and Kolkata at 35.9, 35.7, 34.3 and 34.2 degrees Celsius respectively.
In Bihar too, weather remained hot and humid with the MeT department forecasting generally cloudy skies with possibility of rains or thunder or dust storm on Friday in the capital and other parts of the state. Patna recorded a maximum of 36 degrees Celsius.
In Uttar Pradesh, dry weather conditions prevailed where several rivers are in spate due to sporadic rains over the last three-four days. The water level in Ganga is rising in Dalmau (Raebareli), Mirzapur and Ballia, while that in Yamuna is rising in Hamirpur due to rains in other states.
The river Sharda is flowing above the danger mark in Palliakalan (Kheri) and at the danger mark in Shardanagar (Kheri) due heavy rainfall in Nainital, a Central Water Commission report said. Hot and humid weather continued to prevail across Punjab and Haryana too with Hisar sizzling at 42 degrees Celsius.-PTI
