New Delhi: Congress President Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday kept his 49th birthday celebrations simple, turning up at the AICC headquarters on Akbar Road here to accept greetings from the party workers.
He was in a joyous mood as he shared some light moments with the party workers and journalists, distributed "laddoos" to them and replied to all greeting him with a tweet: "Thank you all for your best wishes & greetings on my birthday. I’m overwhelmed & grateful for your love & affection."
Rahul sent thanks separately to PM Modi for his greetings. "Thank you for your greetings @narendramodi ji. I appreciate them."
In a tweet, Modi had said: "Best wishes to Shri @RahulGandhi on his birthday. May he be blessed with good health and a long life."
Those who turned up at the AICC headquarters to greet Rahul included his sister Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, former PM Manmohan Singh, Rajya Sabha Opposition leader Ghulam Nabi Azad, Rajasthan chief minister Ashok Gehlot and many other senior party leaders.
Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh became emotional in greeting Rahul, tweeting that "I see my friend Rajiv (Gandhi) in you."
