Over Rs 30 lakh robbed from judge, businessman’s houses

Meerut: In two separate incidents in the city, unidentified persons allegedly robbed the houses of a retired judge and a businessman and fled with over Rs 30 lakh in cash and valuables, police said today. Three armed robbers yesterday entered the house of retired judge Shripal in Pandav Nagar and looted Rs 45,000 in cash and gold-silver jewellery, a police spokesperson said. The robbers, were armed with ‘khukri’ and country- made firearms, police said, adding, a case was registered today and a Crime Branch team is investigating the matter.

In the second incident, five-armed robbers forcefully entered businessman Haji Rashid’s house in Uma Nagar under Lisaadi gate station yesterday. The accused then locked the family members in a room, and robbed valuables worth Rs 30 lakh, including Rs 10 lakh in cash and gold-silver jewellery, police said. The valuables were kept in the house as the victim’s daughter is getting married soon, police added. Condemning the incidents, UP BJP Trader’s Cell President Vinit Agarwal Sharda said if such incidents are not curbed then people will be forced to protest.
