NEW DELHI : Prime Minister Narendra Modi has now turned a Yoga Guru, teaching one Yoga exercise a day on his Twitter account in the run-up to a mega Yoga show live on TV, he plans on June 21 on the Rajpath to mark the first International Yoga Day declared by the United Nations at his instance.
Rajpath, hitherto known for the Republic Day Parade, will see Modi performing the Yoga on June 21 morning, a Sunday, with hundreds of school children. Ayush Minister Sripad Naik, who hails from Goa, is personally supervising all arrangements as if it is going to be a carnival for which Goa is famous.
So far Modi has dealt with Tadasana, Vrikshasana and the latest on Friday being Padahastanasana, putting short videos on his Twitter account
In his first tweet on June 3, he wrote: “Today onwards will share details on Asanas. We begin with standing postures, first of which is Tadasana.” He goes on to explain: Yogasanas are capable of bringing about stability of body and mind, involve adopting various psycho-physical body patterns and giving one an ability to maintain a body position comfortable for a considerable length of time. What is Tadasana, the palm tree posture? He goes on: “Tada means palm tree or mountain. This asana teaches one to attain stability and firmness and forms the base for all the standing asanas. Modi has also added “a word of caution”: Avoid lifting the toes in case of acute cardiac problem, varicose veins and vertigo.
His second lesson was on Vrikshasana with a 1.31 minute video. “For improved neuromuscular coordination, balance and rejuvenated ligaments, do practice Vrikshasana,” he tweeted.
Padahastasana is his latest lesson with a 53-second video of three Youngsters performing it in a park. His tweet: “Padahastasana, also known as Uttanasa, is an important asana.”
Those new to his Twitter handle may have to wade through a lot many retweets Modi is putting by picking up the best from those sent to him in thousands every day, giving due credit to the senders. For instance, you may see the beautiful picture of Kolkata’s Howrah Bridge lighted up in the night, Delhi’s Qutab Minar, Gurudwara Hemkunt Sahib, Delhi’s Humayun Tomb, Mumbai’s most famous Ganesh idol Lalbaugcha Raja heading for Visarjan, sky over Bokaro steel city, Ranchi’s Dasham Fall, Jagdalpur’s Chiatrakoot Waterfalls, an amateur’s clock of serenely beauty of Himachal, Chittodgadh fort in Rajasthan, and Ananta Vasudeva Temple dedicated to Krishna in Bhubaneswar, all retweeted by Modi in a single day on June 3.
Modi’s tweets on Friday included a photograph with Environment and Forest Minister Prakash Javadekar at his residence in Delhi, with the tweet: “Planted a Kadam tree at 7RCR on #World Environment Day.
