Modi plans solar-powered corridor along Pak border

New Delhi : Prime Minister Modi on Friday called for a solar-powered corridor along the India-Pakistan border in the deserts of Rajasthan and Gujarat, with two pilot projects of 5 MegaWatts (MW) being initiated as part of promotion of the renewable energy, specially the solar energy.

His announcement came at a monthly meeting with the secretaries convened to review the progress of eight major infrastructural sectors, namely Civil Aviation, Ports and Inland Waterways, Railways, Roads, Telecom, Power, Coal, and New and Renewable Energy.

Officials said he expressed satisfaction at all sectors broadly reporting signiicant improvement in performance over the last four months as compared with the previous year.

He stated that accelerated infrastructure development was his top priority, and also stressed the need for creating world-class infrastructure. Planning Commission secretary Sindhushree Khullar gave a presentation on progress in each of the eight sectors.

Officials said Modi laid stress on monitoring the progress of infrastructure development through the efficiency parameters identified for each sector and sought reports from the ministries in the electronic reporting format. He wanted the monitoring to include initiatives of the state government and the PSUs with other countries.
