Prime Minister Narendra at Kolkata's Victoria Memorial along with West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar

Kolkata: Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Kolkata on Saturday afternoon to take part in the 125th birth anniversary celebrations of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose.

According to the latest updates, the Prime Minister is currently at the Victoria memorial to participate in a programme. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is also present at the site, along with Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar.

The prime minister's aircraft landed at RCTC Ground in the NSC Bose International Airport, in the heart of the city, at 3:25 PM, from where he took a helicopter for the city.

State minister Purnendu Basu received him at the airport. Also present were Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar and state minister Firhad Hakim to greet the Prime Minister.

Modi then visited the ancestral house of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose in the afternoon as he came to the city to take part in the revolutionary's 125th birth anniversary celebrations.

The prime minister was greeted with 'Jai Shri Ram' chants by people waiting outside the Netaji Bhawan in the Bhawanipore area, and he waved at them.

He was received at the entrance of the house by Sugato Bose and his brother Sumantro Bose, the freedom fighter's grandnephews.

Modi was shown the 'Wanderer' car, which Netaji used to escape from Kolkata to Gomoh, said Sugato Bose.

The prime minister was also shown the bedrooms of Netaji and his brother Sarat Chandra Bose.

Modi was also given a quick walkthrough of the museum, which houses the photographs of the Azad Hind Fauj.
