Lucknow: BSP supremo Mayawati today questioned Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s claim of working for farmers in Uttar Pradesh, alleging that his government had treated the state with “apathy and neglect” during its two-year rule.

“Modi government has betrayed people by not keeping its promise as a result of which yesterday’s ‘vikas parv rally’ in Saharanpur was not up to the mark despite attempts to bring people from neighbouring Haryana and Uttarakhand,” she said.

The BSP chief claimed in a release issued by the state party unit here that like the rally organized in Mathura on completion of Modi government’s one year in office, this year’s event also failed to get a response from people.

“People of Uttar Pradesh fell prey to Modi’s big claims and promises in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections and gave votes much above the expectations of BJP to help it form government at the Centre. But none of the promises have been fulfilled,” she said.

The twenty-two crore people of Uttar Pradesh have suffered due to neglect of the central government. “Modi government was having ostentatious celebrations on completion of two years to divert people’s attention from its failures and growing frustration over unfulfilled promises,” the BSP president alleged.

Referring to Prime Minister’s announcement yesterday of raising retirement age of doctors to 65 years, she said it was an attempt to gain cheap publicity.
