Kota MP Om Birla is set to be Speaker

NEW DELHI: Om Birla, a 56-year-old second term BJP MP from Kota in Rajasthan, is likely to be elected unopposed on Wednesday as the Speaker of the 17th Lok Sabha. Most of the Speakers are law graduates, including outgoing Speaker Sumitra Mahajan, who was elected eight times from Indore.

They are expected to tackle the prickly legal issues cropping up in the House, though Birla is not from the law stream. He is M Com and has been an MLA in the Rajasthan Assembly thrice before getting elected to the Lok Sabha for the first time in 2014.
