Amid buzz around cabinet reshuffle, Union minister Thaawarchand Gehlot was today appointed as Governor of Karnataka. PS Sreedharan Pillai, who is currently the Governor of Mizoram, has been transferred to Goa. BJP leader from Andhra Pradesh Dr Hari Babu Kambhampati will be the governor of Mizoram. Haryana Governor Satyadev Narayan Arya has been transferred to Tripura, and the current Governor of the northeastern state Ramesh Bais will serve as Jharkhand Governor. Himachal Pradesh Governor Bandaru Dattatraya has been transferred and appointed as the Governor of Haryana, while Goa minister Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar has been made the Governor of Himachal Pradesh. BJP leader from Gujarat Mangubhai Chhaganbhai Patel will serve as the Governor of Madhya Pradesh.

Maharashtra Home Minister Dilip Walse Patil today announced a high-level inquiry into the allegation of Congress MLA and state party president Nana Patole that his phone was tapped during the previous BJP-led state government. Earlier this year, Patole alleged that along with his phone, the phones of several important leaders of NCP, BJP, Shiv Sena as well as those of IAS and IPS officers were also tapped in 2016-17 during the previous Devendra Fadnavis-led government. The Congress leader had demanded a high-level probe into the matter. Speaking in the Legislative Assembly today, Walse Patil said the issue needs to be probed thoroughly.

The Delhi High Court today directed Twitter to inform it by July 8 as to when it will appoint a resident grievance officer (RGO) in compliance with the new IT Rules after the microblogging platform submitted that it was in the process of doing so. Justice Rekha Palli took exception to the fact the court was not informed that the earlier appointment of the RGO was only on interim basis and he has already resigned. The high court pointed out that only an interim RGO was appointed by Twitter and a wrong impression was given to the court on May 31 as it was not informed that the appointment was on interim basis.

BJP has decided to approach the Bombay High Court to challenge the suspension of its 12 party legislators. This was announced by the state unit chief Chandrakant Patil who along with leader of opposition in the state assembly Devendra Fadnavis participated at the protest against the suspension. Meanwhile, BJP legislators boycotted the proceedings of the legislature but held a parallel session at the entrance of the Vidhan Bhavan today. However, after the deputy speaker Narhari Zirwal ordered the mikes were removed and the legislators were asked to vacate their entrance. Later they continued their parallel session in the area reserved for press and TV media.

Equity benchmark Sensex closed marginally lower after a choppy session today, tracking losses in index majors TCS, Infosys and Reliance Industries amid a largely weak trend in global markets. The 30-share BSE index ended 18.82 points or 0.04 per cent lower at 52,861.18. The broader NSE Nifty fell 16.10 points or 0.1 per cent to 15,818.25. Tech Mahindra was the top loser in the Sensex pack, shedding over 2 per cent, followed by TCS, Maruti, Reliance, Sun Pharma and Infosys. On the other hand, UltraTech Cement, HDFC Bank, Bajaj Finance, Titan and ICICI Bank were among the gainers.
