Sand Boa, a snake species which is native to Iran, India and Pakistan has been endangered since quite a few years now. A shocking discovery was made by the police department of Manor, Palghar where two men got arrested for hiding two sand boa snakes in their farms in Palghar.
This endangered species has been the talk of Wildlife protectors and officers since quite a long time. The species is the most sought-after in the illegal wildlife trade, hence keeping it as a pet is illegal too.
The sand boa had been their pets since the last two years and the accused, Sunil Dhanwa, 46 and Pawan Bhoya, 39 were hiding these pets in a farm belonging to the former’s father, Pandurang, 65 in the Pochade village, Manor, Palghar.
The accused have been put under section 39 (3) and 51 of the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972. The snakes are quite huge in size and would cost approximately Rs 1.50 crore. These snakes reside in the Manor forest, but it has been a rare sight after the jeopardy.
Manor police are still investing in the case.
