Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain on Thursday said that 1,044 mucormycosis or black fungus cases have been reported in the national capital so far.
As many as 92 people have recovered and 89 have died so far due to black fungus, he added.
At a press conference, the state Health Minister said, "There have been a total of 1,044 black fungus cases in Delhi so far. The state has recorded 92 recoveries from the infection and 89 related deaths. The number of active black fungus cases stands at 863."
Satyendar Jain also said that there is a shortage of medicines to treat the infection.
The Delhi High Court on Wednesday said if the city government could not ensure that people get both doses of COVID-19 vaccine Covaxin within the stipulated time, it should not have started so many vaccination centres with "much pomp and splendour".
"The vaccination programme was prepared according to the schedule given by the Centre. But they changed the schedule. If the Covaxin supply would have been coming, we would have administered the second doses to people. We are trying to procure the vaccines quickly," Jain told reporters.
Meanwhile, Delhi recorded 576 fresh COVID-19 cases at a positivity rate of 0.78 per cent and 103 more fatalities due to the disease on Wednesday.
As the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic spread across the country, Delhi began witnessing a rise in the number of daily cases and deaths from April 19. It reported the highest single-day spike of 448 deaths on May 3.
However, there is a declining trend in the number of cases and deaths over the last several days. According to the health bulletin, 1,287 people have recovered from the infection in the last 24 hours.
The 576 fresh cases took Delhi's COVID-19 tally to 14,27,439 while the death toll climbed to 24,402. The case fatality rate is 1.71 per cent. The number of active cases stands at 9,364, of which 4,531 are in home isolation.
