NEW DELHI :  The Congress on Wednesday demanded registration of an FIR and arrest of Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the suicide by a young Rajasthan farmer at the Jantar Mantar here during an Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) rally led by Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and Deputy CM Manish Sisodia against the land acquisition ordinance.

Party spokesman Satyavrat Chaturvedi told a Press conference here that Modi be charged with abatement to commit suicide as he had created conditions in which the farmers see no future for them and resort to suicides and self-immolation in view of the Ordinance taking away their right of livelihood. The victim was 41-year old Gajinder Singh Rajput from Dausa district who climbed up a tree alike others going atop many trees for a better view of the rally. People realised that he was committing suicide when he hanged himself from a branch of the tree. People brought him down and rushed him to Ram Manohar Lohia (RML) Government Hospital where he was declared as brought dead.

What followed was everyone trying to play politics on his tragic death as leaders of all political hues rushed to the hospital and they included Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi, chief minister Kejriwal, union health minister J P Nadda, CPI(M) general secretary Sitaram Yechuri and many others.

Chaturvedi said Modi was responsible for Rajput”s death also because Delhi Police is under him and nobody from Delhi Police tried to prevent him from committing the suicide in public view, nor helped the public in rushing him to the hospital at the earliest. He said Kejriwal was equally responsible since the farmer who had come all the way from Rajasthan for his rally may have come under influence from his speech to end his life.

Asked if the same yardstick should be applied for hundreds of farmers committing suicides to book then Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Chaturvedi wriggled out, saying it was altogether difference case.
