Assam: CM Biswa Sarma distributes ex-gratia of Rs 4L to next of kin to 10 of 24 people who died in floods

Sarma also asked the District Collectors' to conduct a survey to identify houses, which are severely, fully and partially damaged, from Friday and prepare the lists by July 15

In flood-ravaged Assam, state chief minister Himanta Biswa Sharma on Friday distributed ex-gratia of Rs. 4 lakh each to the next of kin to 10 of the 24 persons who lost their lives in the devasting floods in the Cachar district.

Three more people died in Cachar on Wednesday and one each in Morigaon and Dhubri. With these deaths, the toll in this year's flood rose to 139.

"Distributed ex-gratia of ₹4 lakh each to the next of kin of 10 of the 24 persons who unfortunately lost their lives during the recent flood in Cachar district," the CM wrote on his Twitter handle.

"The process of granting relief to family members of the rest of the deceased are being undertaken in a phased manner," the chief minister added.

Sarma had on Thursday (June 30) held a video conference with the Deputy Commissioners of flood-affected districts of the state and reviewed the present scenario and various measures taken by the district administration to provide relief to the affected people.

During this, he also promised that the state government would pay Rs. 3,800 to each family staying in relief camps and other self-arranged shelters on dykes, and roads.

Sarma also asked the District Collectors' to conduct a survey to identify houses, which are severely, fully and partially damaged, from Friday and prepare the lists by July 15, stating the state government is committed to ensuring relief & compensation to all affected people.

A total of 2,389 villages in 72 revenue circles have been affected across the state, while 1,76,201 people have taken shelter in 555 relief camps, according to the ASDMA.
