As Delhi relaxes Covid-19 restrictions, will bars, restaurants be allowed to remain open?

Noticing a decline in the positivity rate of COVID-19, Delhi government on Sunday further relaxed the COVID-19 restrictions in the national capital till 5 am of June 28. As a part of its unlocking, the Delhi government has allowed the reopening of bars, pubs, public parks, gardens, golf clubs and outdoor yoga activities from Monday.

The Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) issued the orders and also listed the services which will be allowed to remain open as restrictions get lifted from June 21.

Will bars, restaurants be allowed to remain open?

As per the DDMA orders, bars will be allowed to open from June 21, however, it will not be allowed to run with full capacity. The DDMA order states that bars will be allowed to operate at 50 percent capacity from 12 pm to 10 pm.

On the other hand, restaurants too have been allowed to operate with 50 percent capacity and can stay open from 8 am to 10 pm.

The owners of restaurants and bars will be responsible for strict adherence to Covid safety measures and all official guidelines and norms.

Besides, public parks, gardens and golf clubs will be reopened and outdoor yoga activities will also be allowed, the DDMA stated in its order. However, prohibited activities and services, including cinemas, gyms, spas among others will remain closed till 5 am on June 28.

Delhi announced a week-long lockdown on April 19. It was then extended every week for a total of 6 weeks.

The national capital on Saturday reported 135 fresh cases of COVID-19, 201 patient recoveries and seven deaths in the past 24 hours, said the Delhi Health Department. With this, the total cases in the capital mounted to 14,32,168 including 2,372 active cases and 14,04,889 total recoveries.

The death toll, however, surged to 24,907 including the new deaths. As a sign of relief, Delhi logged seven COVID-19 deaths in the last 24 hours. On March 4, Delhi registered four COVID-19 deaths. Since then, this is the lowest COVID death count.
