Thane: A local court has sentenced a 49-year-old woman to seven years rigorous imprisonment for immoral trafficking of minor girls and forcing them into flesh trade at a brothel run by her.
Additional Sessions Judge S J Kale recently awarded the sentence to the woman from Navi Mumbai after convicting her for running the brothel and forcing two minor girls into prostitution. The accused was convicted for offences under relevant sections of the Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act and awarded seven years and also sentenced to five years rigorous imprisonment under section 366 (a) (procuration of minor girl) of IPC, with both the sentences to run concurrently.
The woman was arrested on November 26, 2011, from Turbhe area in Navi Mumbai after police conducted a raid and rescued two minor girls who were forced into flesh trade by her. Public Prosecutor Sanjay Londhe told the court that the minor girls, aged 14, were brought from Kolkata by the accused for a sum of Rs 30,000 each and forced into prostitution in a rented room which was raided by police. During the trial, the victims also told the court that they had been bought from Kolkata, brought to Navi Mumbai and forced into flesh trade. They also said that their income from the brothel was taken by the woman.
