New Delhi : The Supreme court on Tuesday will hear the suggestions from different stakeholders and most likely the government to improve the collegium system.

The Apex Court after its 16th October judgment striking down of National Judicial Appointments Commission, NJAC Act, had sought suggestions to improve the present collegium system of appointing judges to Supreme Court and High Courts. Soon after the verdict, which upheld the collegium system of appointing judges to the higher judiciary, the law ministry held a high-level deliberation where it was decided not to go in for a review of the judgment. The memorandum of procedure, which governs appointment of judges of the Supreme Court and high courts, was put in place following two apex court judgments in 1990s that established the collegium and ruled in favour of the primacy of the Chief Justice of India in making such appointments.
