New Delhi : In a security lapse, a 20-year-old woman on Wednesday broke through police barricades and threw a flower pot at Rajpath in the heavily guarded Raisina Hills area less than a minute before Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s convoy was to pass through.

The woman, identified as Neena Rawal, a resident of Sahibabad in Uttar Pradesh, was detained and questioned at the Parliament Street police station before she was taken for a medical check-up.

The incident took place at around 2:10 PM when Modi’s convoy was leaving South Block. The woman was part of the crowd which was asked to clear the road and line up on a pavement near Vijay Chowk. Neena was livid when the police asked her to move further aside. She entered into an altercation with the security personnel and brought down three barricades. By the time the police could stop her, she had started running towards Raisina Hills, where she threw a flower pot on the road, a minute before the convoy passed through.

Rawal was whisked away from the spot and put to sustained interrogation. She told the police that some hooligans had torn her mark sheet for which she had lodged a complaint but no action followed. She claimed that she had come to Rajpath for justice and had no idea whose convoy was passing through. She had taken a metro train from Ghaziabad and arrived in Delhi in the morning. When asked what was the purpose of her visit she couldn’t give a clear answer, an official said. “We are examining the matter. The woman’s statement has been recorded and she has been taken for a medical examination,” the official added.
