Mumbai  :  At least five inmates of Arthur Road Jail at Central Mumbai got injured in infighting on Monday morning. All the injured have been admitted at JJ Hospital, where they are recuperating, said an official attached to the NM Joshi Marg police station.

The incident took place at around 8.45 am Monday morning, in which Muddassar Ismail Ansari (30), Sarvar Maksud Khan (32) and Suleman Mehmood Patel allegedly assaulted Vishal Chandrashekar Amkar (31) and Murgan Mani Nadar (52), the police said. The accused attacked the victim with Kapri (a sharp weapon made from aluminium plate used by the prisoners to eat food).

“The injured Amkar sustained injuries on his cheeks, chest and left thigh while Murgan Nadar sustained injuries on his lower lips and chest,” said Mumbai Police spokesman Sangramsinh Nishandar.

However, the reason of the fight is still being ascertained. A case against the undertrails has been registered at NM Joshi police station, he said.

Speaking on the matter, Nishandar said, “Muddassar and Sarvar were arrested in robbery cases registered in various police stations while Suleman Mehmood Patel was arrested by the ATS Mumbai in an Arms Act case; Vishal Chandrashekar was arrested in a murder case, and Murgan is a convict in theft cases.”
