Senior Inspector Prabhakar Shinde of Chinchwad police station told the leading daily, “As the girl shouted for help, the shopkeeper chased the car, but they escaped. The shopkeeper informed her society members, who informed her family, who contacted us.” Later the family approached the police and a case was registered by Mahi’s maternal uncle Alok Katariya.

Later that night around 8 pm the kidnappers called for ransom after which all police stations and Crime Branch units were roped in to rescue the girl. The senior police inspector told the leading that, “Initially they wanted ransom of Rs 50 lakh, but later came down to Rs 7 lakh and gold ornaments. The accused have been identified as  Nitin Satyavan Gajarmal (25) and Jitendra Papuram Banjara (21) and both are currently jobless.

But Papuram Banjara had worked in cinema theatres and also was a delivery boy, during which he had visited Queenstown Society. After which the duo hatched a plan to kidnap a child from the society and demand ransom from the family which will fund a restaurant they both wanted to open.
