New Delhi :  Even as Prime Minister Narendra Modi attended a BJP-RSS review meeting on his government”s 15-month-long tenure as a ”proud swayamsewak”, the Congress party described this as an insult to the Constitution.

Senior party leader Anand Sharma said: “It is a violation of the tradition and practices of a parliamentary democracy. The Prime Minister and his ministers meeting the RSS is an insult to the Constitution.”

Sharma said that when the PM and his council of ministers take the oath of office and secrecy under the Constitution, they also affirm that they won”t disclose their plans and policies to those who are not under a similar constitutional oath. ”But here all the ministers have been discussing policy matters with the RSS, and presenting their report cards to it,” he added.

Pointing out that the RSS that has all along maintained that it is a cultural organisation has now been éxposed” and it now stands in the open that it is looking after the government and the BJP was merely its political front, Sharma said: “RSS should accept that it creates the polices for the BJP.”

In a stinging critique, the Communist Party of India- Marxist (CPI-M) also said that the ongoing joint meeting of RSS-BJP is an affront to democracy and the exercise “clearly” shows the Sangh Parivar was in “direct control” of the government. “The detailed reports of their works being given by Union Ministers to RSS leaders at their joint meeting in the capital is an affront to Indian democracy. It clearly shows RSS is not merely the remote control but is in the direct control of this BJP Government which acts as the RSS” political arm,” said the party in a statement.
