Mumbai : A high-profile model, 23, has lodged a complaint at Malad police station against unknown persons who allegedly uploaded her personal number and photograph on an adult website. She started getting calls as she has been branded a ‘call girl’ on the site.
The case was registered almost a week ago but there have been no arrests yet. Sources told the Free Press Journal that investigators are taking the help of the cyber cell of Mumbai Crime Branch to crack the case.
“It seems the offenders took her personal number from someone or during a chat on a social networking site,” said a source.
The offenders have been targeting high profile girls and models. They befriend young girls/ models on social networking sites and, after gaining their confidence, they demand the girls’ personal numbers. Then they sell the details — like phone numbers, names and photographs — to gangs who operate sex rackets across India.
After purchasing the details, these gangs upload the photographs and names on adult websites and brand these young women as ‘call girls’.
“The numbers of these girls are accessible only after paying a certain amount through debit/credit card,” a source said.
