Indrani Mukherjea has been charged with killing her sister and disposing off her body in Raigad .
Mumbai : Indrani Mukherjea, wife of former Star India CEO Peter Mukherjea was on Tuesday detained by Khar police for her alleged role in her sister’s murder in 2012.
Indrani and her driver Shyam Rai were picked up from her Worli residence and produced before the Bandra court. The court remanded them to police custody till August 31.
Indrani Mukherjea was kept in the Santacruz ladies police lockup in the night and will be brought to Khar police station for interrogation.
“We have arrested 2 accused namely, Indrani Mukerjea and her driver, under section 302,201,34 of the Indian Penal Code,” DCP Dhananjay Kulkarni said.
Mukherjea was arrested on charges of murdering her sister and disposing off her body. She has been booked under Sections 302, 201 and 34 of the IPC. According to sources, Mukherjea and her driver plotted the conspiracy to kill Indrani’s sister Sheena Bora in 2012. They allegedly buried the body in Raigad from where the cops recovered her remains.
The bones were sent to forensic labs for tests. Police have also formed a special team to investigate the case, as it has been three years since the murder.
The motive behind the murder has not yet been confirmed but speculations are rife that the two sisters had had a dispute over some property or financial matters. ”A property or financial dispute is believed to be the main motive for the murder. We have arrested her, produced her before the court. We will interrogate and find out more about the motive and how the body was disposed of,” an officer from Khar police station. Mukherjea founded 9X Media in 2007 and was the CEO of the company. 9X Media was founded through two companies INX Media Pvt Ltd and INX News Pvt Ltd. Her husband Peter Mukherjea was the Chairman and CEO of the same. Both quit INX Media in 2009.
