Kolkata: The Left Front today dismissed the suggestion that BJP would end the “misrule” of the Trinamool Congress, saying that the “saffron party-led Hindutva forces” were only complimenting TMC’s “radical fundamentalism”. The Left Front manifesto for the upcoming Kolkata Municipal Corporation polls, which was released today, described Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s recent meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi as “ghar wapsi” of the TMC. The manifesto asserted that the job of ousting TMC from power would ultimately rest with the Left Front.

“The BJP and TMC are supplementing and complementing each other. The media has been creating a hype in favour of BJP as if they have replaced the Left as the main opposition. “But the fact is that only the Left Front is the main opposition and only it can free the people from the misrule of the TMC,” the manifesto claimed.

“The CBI and the ED are controlled by the central government. They are investigating the Saradha scam. It is the fallout of that investigation that Mamata Banerjee is now meeting Narendra Modi. TMC has supported various bills of BJP in the Rajya Sabha. It is ghar wapsi of TMC as TMC has been part of NDA government from 1999-2004,” the manifesto said.

About its agenda, the manifesto stressed on the issue of women security and promised that in every ward under the 100 days’ work scheme a special women security team would be created comprising of women only.

The manifesto also promised better civic ammenities to the people of Kolkata including creation of a 24 hour toll free helpline. Last week it had released the manifesto for election to 93 other municipalities in the state.
