Maharashtra: Kisan march suspended after government assurance

Mumbai: The long march organised by All India Kisan Sabha — a farmers wing of Communist Party of India (Marxist) suspended on second day after successfully negotiation with the state government. Comrade Dr Ajit Nawale said the government has given assurance over manor six pending demands including increase in pension to the people who don’t have guardians and separate law to be enacted for land owned by temples in villages and cities across the state.

The march which was proceeded towards Mumbai from Nashik on February 20, was halted at Wadi Warhe, 15 kilometers outside from Nashik on Friday. Girish Mahajan, guardian minister and minister for water resources and Jaykumar Rawal, minister for tourism met the delegation of farmers and held negotiation talks.

After marathon meetings during a whole day, the farmer leaders and the government came on consensus on several points. “The government has given written assurance on increase in pension to dependable persons, avail benefit of loan waiver to farmers who had taken loan in the year 2016 and 2017, give relief to farmers who had taken loan for shed-net for the farms were few major demands,” said Dr Nawale.
