New Delhi : Terming the death of IAS officer DK Ravi as unfortunate, Congress leader PC Chacko on Wednesday said the state CID must be allowed to investigate the case before a request for the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is made. The incident needs to be investigated thoroughly, no doubt about that. But the state CID is conducting the investigation and preliminary reports are yet to come. The CID has to complete its investigation and if that investigation is not satisfactory, then naturally a CBI investigation can be requested,” Chacko told ANI.

“Let the CID finish its work. At this stage, a CBI investigation is not justified,” he added. Union Law Minister Sadananda Gowda, who had earlier said that everybody suspected the 36-year-old’s death to a case of cold blooded murder, has called for a CBI investigation into the matter. Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramiah has said that the Bengaluru City Police is capable of investigating the case and added that it remained to be seen if the case will be referred to the investigating agencies. Bengaluru Police Commissioner M.N. Reddi also pointed out that forensic and medical evidence had hinted that Ravi’s death was prima facie a case of suicide. He added that a thorough investigation was on and warned against jumping to any conclusion.

Ravi, who took on the sand mafia in Karnataka’s Kolar District, was an Additional Commissioner on deputation with the Commercial Tax department. He was found hanging from a ceiling fan in his house by his wife on Monday.
