WashingtonD.C: The Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIS) claimed responsibility for the assault on a Baghdad gas plant on Sunday, the latest in a series of deadly attacks that have claimed more than 100 lives in recent days.

According to CNN, Baghdad Governor Ali al-Tamimi said that 10 people, including seven police officers and three guards, were killed during the assault on the facility in the Taji area, north of Iraq’s capital, at 5 a.m. local time Sunday.

The Police reported that the attack began with a suicide car bomb at the entrance of the plant and then a second suicide bomber detonated an explosive inside the facility.

Following which six ISIS militants then tried to storm inside, but security forces were able to repel them as two military helicopters were deployed from Taji military base to fight the militants, police said.

The attack left 24 people injured and three gas storage tanks burning at the plant, which produces cooking gas canisters.

The attack would not affect production at the plant, Iraq’s Oil Ministry said Sunday.
