New Delhi: Emphasizing on better disaster management and planning, Congress Party leader Rashid Alvi on Tuesday said that the government should ensure that it is better prepared to handle a situation like Cyclone Hudhud in future.

“Government should make sure that we are better prepared for such events in the future. There is a need of more planning and laying emphasis on disaster management,” Alvi told ANI.

“We have to think and plan better so that this doesn’t happen in future. Because of technology we got to know that ‘Hudhud’ is coming much in advance and we were prepared for it. But despite taking precautions there has been damage,” he added.

A number of buildings were damaged in  Vishakhapatnam after Cyclone Hudhud made landfall in the city on Sunday. The very severe cyclonic storm has weakened into a cyclonic storm after crossing coast and is now over Chhattisgarh and adjoining South Odisha. Presently, negligible rain and calm winds are being experienced at Visakhapatnam.
