Suspended IPS officer has the last laugh after a case   of criminal intimidation is filed against SP supremo

Lucknow : An FIR has been lodged against Samajwadi Party president Mulayam Singh Yadav on a complaint by suspended IPS officer Amitabh Thakur who staged a sit-in at the Hazratganj police station to press for the same. The report has been registered under IPC section 506 (criminal intimidation).

Interestingly, the FIR was registered on September 24 itself, but information was not made public. The fact that it had been filed was known only when the police filed a status report before the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate who had on September 16 directed the police to lodge the FIR.

In the absence of any information, Thakur had staged a sit-in in the Hazratganj police station to protest inaction in the case. Scores of lawyers and people from all walks of life also gathered in his support. The police refused to comment all day saying it will inform the status to the court.

Thakur had filed a complaint against Mulayam on July 11 at Hazratganj police station, alleging that Yadav had threatened him over the phone. He provided an audio clip of the said conversation as evidence. The same night, an FIR was registered at Gomtinagar police station against Thakur under Sections 376 (rape), 504 (intentional insult) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the IPC, on the basis of an earlier complaint by a Ghaziabad-based woman.

Thakur”s wife Nutan, an RTI and social causes” activist, was named as co-accused.

A day earlier on Wednesday, a Special Counsel of the UP government had told the Allahabad High Court that an FIR against Mulayam would be lodged “forthwith” for allegedly threatening Amitabh Thakur over phone. The counsel was replying to Lucknow Bench of the HC on progress in a chief judicial magistrate court”s order to file an FIR against the senior politician.

The bench of Chief Justice D Y Chandrachud and Justice S N Shukla later disposed a writ petition filed by Amitabh Thakur and wife Nutan, who had prayed direction for constituting judicial inquiry into alleged harassment of them by senior officers.

On October 1, Suspended IPS officer Amitabh Thakur on Thursday staged a sit-in in the Hazratganj police station in Lucknow to demand immediate filing of an FIR against Samajwadi Party president Mulayam Singh Yadav on a complaint of having threatened Thakur over telephone.

On Thursday, Thakur arrived at the Hazratganj police station with a few supporters and sought the filing of an FIR. However, when the staff at the police station showed reluctance in doing so, he sat in the premises itself to press for filing of the FIR.

Thakur had earlier approached the Gomtinagar and Hazratganj police stations for filing of an FIR against Mulayam on his complaint and when the two police stations failed to do so, the officer had moved the CJM court.
