Dubai: A former Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs who served under ousted President Hosni Mubarak has reportedly said that the Muslim Brotherhood is the “godfather” of several Islamist terror groups operating in the Middle East like, Islamic State (IS), Al Nusra and Al Qaeda.
Ahmad Abu Al Geit, who served as foreign minister from 2004 to 2011 and as Egypt’s representative to the United Nations from 1999 to 2004, said at the Arab Strategy Forum in Dubai on Sunday that the Brotherhood should dissolve the group and renounce violence.
Mohammad Mursi, a leading Muslim Brotherhood member, became Egypt’s first democratically elected President following the popular unrest that overthrew the Mubarak regime. He was subsequently ousted in a military coup led by army strongman and current President Abdul Fattah Al Sissi.
