Jammu: A curfew was imposed in Jammu and Kashmir’s Samba district late Thursday following communal clashes, authorities said on Friday. “Curfew was imposed in Samba district after violence erupted there following alleged religious sacrilege by members of one community,” a police official told IANS here. Violent clashes erupted yesterday (Thursday) evening at Raya Morh area in Samba district where protesters torched the vehicle of the district magistrate and smashed other vehicles on the Jammu-Srinagar highway. Several policemen and protesters were injured in the clashes. Army was called during the night to install confidence among the people, district administration officials said. The protesters alleged their religious scriptures had been torched inside a factory in Bari Brahmana industrial area. Police and civil administration are seeking the help of the elders of the two communities to restore communal harmony in the town.
