New Delhi: Social activist and communist leader Govind Pansare and his wife, who were fatally attacked yesterday, are reportedly in a serious but stable condition. The attack on the couple had elicited strong condemnation from leaders across the political spectrum who demanded a special team to look into the matter.
Union Environment and Forest Minister Prakash Javadekar wished Pansare speedy recovery and added that the police must nab the perpetrators at the earliest. Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Nawab Malik said, “We strongly condemn the life-threatening attack on Govind Pansare. He was a person who has always fought for the poor and justice, it is very sad that he has been attacked. State government should take strict action and arrest the culprits.”
Communist Party of India (Marxist) leader Sitaram Yechury said his party will take up the matter with the state government. Pansare and his wife were severely injured after unknown assailants had fired on the couple while they were out for their morning walk at Sagarmala area of Kolhapur city.
