Beijing: Chinese Vice Premier Liu Yandong visited victims of the massive explosions in China’s Tianjin city that left 50 people dead and over 700 injured, and promised them best medical treatment.

Seventeen fire-fighters were among those killed in Wednesday’s explosions at a warehouse that stored dangerous goods.  Commissioned by President Xi Jinping and Premier Li Keqiang, Liu on Thursday night paid visits to two hospitals where injured fire-fighters and residents were treated, Xinhua news agency reported.  Seventy of the injured are in a critical condition.

Liu extended appreciation to medical workers participating in the rescue.  On early Friday morning, Liu made further instruction on rescue efforts after consulting medical experts and Tianjin authorities on the latest progress in a meeting held in the Binhai New Area, where the blasts occurred.  Liu also called for psychological support and counselling services for the injured, and the family members of the victims.
