Chennai building collapse: 27 recovered alive, 61 injured

Chennai: Twenty seven people have so far been rescued alive while 61 people have been reportedly left injured in the Chennai building which collapsed on June 28.

“This is the sixth day of the rescue work. Getting a bus has become a major problem for daily commuters, especially school and college students. There can be more people inside, in unknown conditions,” said a local person.

The structure collapsed approximately 20 kilometers away from Chennai, at Moulivakkam. Most of the people who were trapped under the debris were construction workers from Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu.

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), taking suo motu cognizance of a media report, had issued a notice to the Chief Secretary, Government of Tamil Nadu calling for a report within two weeks into the incident.
