New Delhi: Former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda took a jibe at the BJP, saying that the party was attempting to establish its government in Karnataka by dislodging the Congress-JD(S) government in the state.
Taking to his Twitter handle, Gowda compared the status of Congress’ farm loan waiver to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s schemes and promises. “Our promise: Farmers Loan Waiver -Status: Ongoing, Modi’s promise: Ram Mandir, Clean Ganga, Interlinking of rivers, 15 Lakh into bank accounts -Status: Never,” the JD(S) supremo tweeted. Further taking a swipe at the BJP, Gowda said that ‘ongoing’ was a better status than ‘never’, adding that the BJP’s only ‘ongoing’ status is ‘Operation Lotus’ in Karnataka, referring to the party’s electoral symbol.
“‘Ongoing’ is a better status to be in than ‘Never’. The only ‘Ongoing’ status in BJP is ‘Operation Lotus’ attempt in Karnataka,” he wrote on the micro-blogging site. Earlier in the day, the Karnataka Assembly was adjourned till Friday after a protest by BJP MLAs, claiming that the Congress-JD(S) alliance is a minority government and it does not have the required numbers. With the opposition unrelenting amid the uproar, the Assembly was adjourned till 11 am tomorrow.
In a jibe at the BJP, former state chief minister Siddaramaiah said: “Let them move a no-confidence motion. What’s preventing them? We have called a legislature party meeting and they will all (four dissenting Congress MLAs) return tomorrow. The budget will be presented tomorrow. The government has the majority.” In the 224-member Karnataka Legislative Assembly, the BJP has 104 seats, while the JD(S) has 37 seats and Congress 80 seats.
