Varanasi: Strongly condemning the JNU event against hanging of Parliament attack convict Afzal Guru, Banaras Hindu University Vice Chancellor Girish Chandra Tripathi today demanded strict action against the students involved in the “anti-national act”.
“Such an anti-national event at the JNU campus wherein anti-India slogans were raised against the judicial hanging of a terror convict Afzal Guru and demanding freedom of Kashmir, can never be tolerated in our country. Prompt action must be taken against the students involved,” he said. There was uproar after the student organisers of the event at Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) in Delhi pasted posters across the campus for a protest march against “judicial killing of Afzal Guru and Maqbool Butt” and in solidarity with the “struggle of Kashmiri people for their democratic right to self determination” at varsity’s Sabarmati dhaba on Tuesday.
The Vice Chancellor said efforts had also been made to organise such “anti-national events” on the BHU campus but he took a prompt and strict action against those who tried to “mislead” the students and lure them into anti-India activities.
