Army Chief General Bipin Rawat on Thursday during an annual press briefing said things like adultery and gay sex, both of which have been decriminalised by the Supreme Court, cannot be allowed in the Army. But he also warned the Army men that they shouldn’t befriend women with names of film stars on social media which can be honey traps.

According to India Today, the Army chief spoke about the usage of social media in the Army and said that while it cannot be completely banned, soldiers have been advised about how to use it. “We have taught our men that how the social media is being used by our adversary to trap us,” Rawat said. The leading news channel also quoted the Army chief saying, “What makes you think they want to be friends with you? They would not want to be friends with any Tom, Dick, and Harry. The social media should not compromise on our security as it can be used by our adversary to trap us.”

The Army chief Bipin Rawat, also in the press meet, suggested that the Supreme Court verdict on decriminalisation of gay sex may not be implemented in the Army. “In the Army, we never thought this (gay sex and adultery) can happen. Anything that was thought of could happen was put in the Army Act. This was something unheard of in the Army when the Army Act was made, therefore it was not put into it. We have never allowed it…We can take action against people, but will never allow this to happen,” he said.
