New Delhi: Union Health Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda said that the four AIIMS doctors, who were sent to a mass sterilisation camp in Chhattisgarh after 13 women died, have guided the doctors and helped set proper norms.

The four doctors of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) were sent Tuesday evening on the recommendation of the ministry after 13 women died and over 70 women were hospitalised following botched tubectomy procedures at the camp. “…the AIIMS doctors who visited the Bilaspur district in Chhattisgarh, have guided the doctors and help them set up proper norms and the doctors have been asked to adhere too it,” said Nadda.

Speaking on the sidelines of a blood donation camp organised by Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) in collaboration with AIIMS, Nadda added that the judicial inquiry set up by the Chhattisgarh government has been assured of all help from the central government. “The thing to be noted is that the sterilisation process was not target driven but demand driven,” he added.
