Independence Day 2018: Watch these patriotic movies to celebrate 72nd Independence day

Tomorrow we celebrate the Independence of our country, and  like many people we also have our own way of celebrating Independence, some go out with the family, some go biking with their friends but there are few who stay at home and celebrate the independence by watching the patriotic movies, here are the list of patriotic movies which you can watch tomorrow.

Border

‘Border’ was directed by J P Dutta and it still remains his finest and most successful works till date. This movie was based on India-Pakistan war of 1971, the film stars Sunny Deol, Suniel Shetty, Jackie Shroff, Akshaye Khanna among many other powerful actors. The film not only succeeded in igniting patriotic spark among Indians, it also gave an anti-war message in the end.

Chak De India!

A movie dedicated to Hockey the National Game of our country. This movie rediscovers the game itself which has lost itself somewhere between other sports. Chak de India was directed by Shimit Amin and Rob Miller and was produced by Aditya Chopra, Shahrukh Khan plays the lead character named Kabir Khan. When the film was released the actresses who played the leading Indian women team showed in the movie were give the title of Chak De Girls. The music was given by duo Salim-Sulaiman and lyrics were penned by Jaideep Sahni.

Mangal Pandey: The Rising

It is a movie roughly based on the life of Mangal Pandey an Indian soldier who sparked the Indian Rebellion of 1857 or first war of Independence. The film was directed by Ketan Mehta and was produced by Bobby Bedi, Ketan Mehta and Deepa Sahi. The film stars Aamir Khan, Rani Mukerji, Toby Stephens, Ameesha Patel, Kirron Kher, Coral Beed in lead roles.The music was given by A.R. Rahman and lyrics were penned down by Javed Aktar. It also brought pride and prestige not only in India but also internationally.

Lakshya

Following up on the huge success of Dil Chahta Hai, Director Farhan Akhtar made this movie about a teenager who has no idea about his future, when he joins the Indian Army he finds the meaning of his life at the top of a  hill at 26000 ft after defeating insurgents from Pakistan. Though this movie did not do great at the box office, it made a cult following later.

The Legend of Bhagat Singh

The opening scene of the movie itself will bring you to tears and the rest of the movie just makes you wonder who this man was. The movie was a huge success and went onto win 2 National awards for best actor and best direction but was a flop at the box office, the content of the movie was so good it became one of the best materials available on Bhagat Singh. You don’t have to go through any history books if you can watch this movie. The music was by A.R.Rehman which perfectly captures the feel of pre-independence India.

The Ghazi Attack

India’s first underwater film tried to recreate a submarine war between the INS Vikrant and Pakistan submarine Ghazi,  Ghazi was the greatest war ship of that time, it had the power to defeat every war ship. but at the end spite of the odds against them India annihilated Pakistan. This movie does a great job in capturing the essence of the era, with a great star cast like Rana Daggubati, Kay Kay Menon and Taapsee Pannu this movie still leaves you with goosebumps.

Sarfarosh

The debut movie of director John Matthew Matthan, starring Aamir Khan, Naseeruddin Shah, Sonali Bendre in the leading roles was a huge success and even if you watch it more than hundred times this movie still remains fresh. The film deals with an honest IPS officer’s quest to stop cross border terrorism at all cost. The film was a critical and commercial success and went onto win National Award as well as 4 Filmfare awards.

Lagaan

Being one of the few movies nominated for the prestigious Oscar’s. Based on a fictional story of a group of the villager’s going up against an arrogant British officer when he challenges them for a cricket match. Lagaan was a huge success with critics as well as audiences and cemented Ashutosh Govarikar as the director to watch out. It also gave Amir Khan much-needed success after the mega failure of Mela(1998).

Rang De Basanti

Rang De Basanti directed by Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra . This is one of the movies in Bollywood that awakens patriotic feel among people. ‘Rang De Basanti’ still brings out a feeling of pride towards one’s country, this Aamir Khan starrer shows the important role played by rebellious youth of the per-independence time.

Raazi, directed by Meghan Gulzar was released on May 11 of this year. It was based on the novel ‘Calling Sehmat’ by Harinder Sikka. The film is inspired by a true story which revolves around an Indian Spy played by Alia Bhatt and is set during 1971 Indo-Pakistan war. This movie is not just talk about a girl whose a spy but also a women who is a wife, a daughter. With a great supporting cast like Vicky Kushal this movie is a full package.
