Tamil Nadu: For the purpose of introducing a special project for students in Class VI through Class VIII in government and aided schools, the Tamil Nadu government assembled an expert panel made up of renowned college professors in the fields of science and mathematics.
The pupils of government schools exhibit a lack of interest in both science and mathematics, according to a recent survey by the Tamil Nadu school education department in collaboration with an educational organisation.
It also exposed the fact that the majority of teachers in public and publicly funded schools mostly taught theoretical classes to students rather than practical lessons.
A representative of the school education department told the media that the department has already assembled a team of 70 professors from the science and mathematics streams to create a proposal for teaching the core science subjects to the students so that they acquire a proper foundation in these fields. The goal is to increase the number of students studying science and math in the plus one and plus two levels who come from government and government-aided streams.
For this project, the professors and the school education department are cooperating through the Tamil Nadu Science Forum. But school instructors want to be included in this effort as well, believing that they are better able to offer comments and changes based on their regular interactions with pupils.
An office-bearer of a prominent school teacher association of Tamil Nadu while speaking to IANS said: "School teachers in the government sector who give hundred percent results in board exams must also be included in this project to improve the basic Science and Mathematic skills of students as they are better equipped and knows the day to day issues being faced even by brilliant students who studies in the government and government-aided sectors."
